About Rework the Room

Meet Martha, a Professional Home Organizer Serving Los Angeles

I’m Martha — a British-born professional organizer in LA and the founder of Rework the Room, a boutique organizing service that brings warmth, clarity, and calm to busy homes.

I’m Martha — a British-born professional organizer in LA and the founder of Rework the Room, a boutique organizing service that brings warmth, clarity, and calm to busy homes.

Before starting this business, I spent nearly two decades as a journalist — interviewing celebrities, writing first-person essays, and working for publications like Marie Claire, The Guardian, and Porter. That job required empathy, sharp instincts, and the ability to connect with people quickly — all skills I now bring into your home.

I launched Rework the Room after seeing the disconnect between what many organizing companies offer — quick fixes, rainbow bins, and endless acrylic — and what busy women, especially mothers, actually need: sustainable, customized organizing systems that support real, everyday life.

Believe me when I say: I’m often hired to un-do the work of other, more cookie-cutter organizers.

When you work with me, you get me – not a team of strangers with label makers. I work solo, intentionally, and closely with each client to design spaces that reduce stress, restore order, and lighten the mental load. No judgment. No pressure. Just a little less noise… and a little more breathing room.

Rework the Room has grown almost entirely through personal referrals — clients bring me into their homes, I transform how the space feels, and then they tell a friend. Over time, that’s how I became a kind of “best-kept secret” in LA: the organizer people recommend quietly but enthusiastically, because they trust the work and they trust me. Keeping my client list curated means I remain hands-on, intentional, and fully present with every client.

More Than Just Organizing

I’ve always found comfort in order. As a child, organizing helped me feel safe. That instinct stayed with me through chaotic newsrooms and big life transitions. But it was loss — deep, defining loss — that taught me how powerfully our homes mirror our emotional lives.

My dad died when I was 12. I lost my mum to cancer in 2017, shortly after getting married. I spent years navigating infertility and ultimately conceived my daughter, Maggie, using donor eggs.

These experiences don’t define me, but they’ve deepened me. They’ve made me even more attuned to the invisible weight we all carry behind the scenes of daily life.

Because here’s what I know: Life gets messy. And that mess deserves care, not shame.

When I walk into a client’s home, I don’t just see clutter. I see someone doing their best. I see a story. And I bring my full self to help them rework not just their space, but the way it makes them feel.

If you’ve made it this far down the page… that might be your sign.
